I haven't posted for a long long time, sorry about that. I am still writing and whatnot I just haven't written anything I've felt is worth posting for a long time, unless you guys want to read a bunch of potentially forever unfinished WIPs.

Who cares about that, though? I have revived from the dead purely to gush PURE UNMITIGATED JOY in all directions thanks to E3.

FF7 REMAKE GUYS. IT'S REAL.

I am so mixed up about it. On one hand, I am so worried they'll mess it up, because the task of making that entire game in HD is so enormous and expensive and while I wouldn't mind if they tweaked a few of the dated controls and whatnot I also don't want them to change a single thing and wow. Just wow. Still not convinced it's a very late, very expensive April Fool's Joke.

GUYS, CROSSDRESSING SCENE IN HD.

And if that wasn't enough, we have a release window and more gameplay footage of the The Last Guardian, which I had been thoroughly convinced was vaporware and had totally given up on.

LOOK AT IT, IT'S STILL BEAUTIFUL.

Of course, this seems like a timely occasion to relink this comic.

Oh yeah and Shenmue 3 is also pretty cool I guess, I just don't have any leftover feelings after FF7 AND THE LAST GUARDIAN HOLY CRAP GUYS, THE GAMING GOOD TIMES NEVER END.

I have an important link to share that will be of interest to any FF7 fans who read Dear Kunsel - [livejournal.com profile] lithic_rune has written a really good sequel here that should satisfy a lot of people left unhappy with the original ending.

So! Supanova Brisbane 2013 was last weekend. Or as I liked to call it, Nintendo Streetpass Palooza 2013 with a side of cosplay.

Seriously I spent at least half of the time just collecting streetpasses, guys.

Mostly cosplay pics under the cut )

Okay, so now that I've finished (or at least, been through the credits) of Ni No Kuni, I feel like I can finally talk about it.

This was pretty much the best game ever.

This is only slight hyperbole - it is a serious contender for my new 'favourite game of all time'.  I need to gush.  I'll give warnings for spoilers that happen later on or are terribly story-related.

The game just oozes Ghibli, and in fact is probably better than many of Ghibli's recent movies. This is made by Level 5, who are perfectly brilliant in their own right, but their hand is all but invisible in it. It's just... so visually stunning.  I mean, look at it.

.

The whole game looks like that.
Lots more gushing under the cut )

Dat Ending

So obviously this isn’t a chapter. Sorry about that. Work has been intense, and I think it’s been using up all of my creative juices so that when I do have time for fic it’s been going slowly. Which is great for work, not so great for posting new chapters in a timely fashion. I’m making steady progress though, and I’ll post it as fast as I can, since you guys have all been wonderfully patient with the schedule stretch.

Good news is, though, I have been trying to keep in the groove by doing a little more work on the Xmas Giftfics (remember those?!) and have finally updated the Cosplay Master Post too.  Oh, and I finished FF13-2!  Oh man, LET’S TALK ABOUT FF13-2.

SO.  CONSIDER EVERYTHING HERE ON IN SPOILERS.  I’m quite late to the FF13-2 party so this shouldn’t be a problem for once.

Spoilers and capslocking within! )

It was Wai-Con on the weekend!  Some of you may recall my cosplay freakouts from the leadup.

Not much sleep was had the night before flying over to Perth!  Sleeping is for the plane.  Once I landed, though, it was pretty much non-stop!  We had cosplay skit rehearsals to do, plus shopping and eating and meeting so many new people!  Not to mention all the last-minute cosplay making and trips to Spotlight!

I'll skip all of that, and go straight to what people really care about - the con!

Wai-Con is the best con )

I literally just spent the entire day playing FF13-2.  I haven't had that kind of glorious gaming binge in years.  And I'm still only maybe 30% of the way through!  Although I am perilously close to maxing out all the skills in the Crystarium, which might be why battles have been way too easy recently.

I get all weepy and fangirly over Hope every time he is so much as mentioned.  I just want to say -  everyone else in the cast of FF13 , you are all horrible, horrible friends.  (But I guess it doesn't matter because Hope is badass enough to practically single-handedly change the course of history whenever Serah tells him to.  Sure, Serah and Noel deserve some credit, but really, who is doing the hard yards there?)

Also, that Caius wears purple and shared Kain's voice actor is doing weird things to my brain.  He's the best damn villain FF has seen since Sephiroth, though, and has the music to prove it.

I have been doing things other than just drowning myself in Final Fantasy, of course!  I've also been playing  Virtue's Last Reward , and  that game is off the hook awesome .  It's basically a novel game version of the prisoner's dilemma combined with the room escape genre!  It has Liar Game vibes, and conspiracy, and betrayal, and a dude in a robot suit with amnesia, and a psycho AI killer rabbit, and and and I actually shouldn't really say anything more than that lest I spoil it for people.  I'm actually only fairly early in myself though, since, you know, Final Fantasy.  And as a bonus, all Japanese voices!  Just as well, I hate to imagine what localisation would have done with Zero-III.

Also some RL things that aren't video games )

Today was an awesome day!  It is the top contender for best day of 2012 so far.  Take note, months August to December.

Reasons why today was awesome:
  • A couple of us from work went out to lunch at this out-of-the-way ramen place we'd heard about. It is the best ramen I have ever had, seriously, it was even better than Ajisen Ramen, the broth was heavenly, I can still taste the memory~!
  • We had free Krispy Kreme donuts at work!  I don't know why.  Maybe to make up for that kerfluffle the previous week where the studio thought we were closing down for a whole twenty minutes.
  • THEATRHYTHM came out.  aslkfjlaskjflkasjdflksajfd  It is sitting it my hot little hand as I wait for 3DS to recharge.  This is me gone for the next month.  Which is bad, as I have cosplay deadlines.
  • I have a stack of new manga to read!  *___*  Viz has been stockpiling it, or something.  My order bag at the comic shop was full to bursting.
  • I got to play DJ Max!  Any day where I get to play DJ Max is better than average.
  • The grocer by the bus stop had my favourite chocolates on sale!  \o/  Also, I finished the transaction exactly thirty seconds before the bus arrived!  Totally boss.
Pretty much the only way it could have been better is if I got to sleep in.  But that's what tomorrow is for.

The weekend is thus now looking awesome.  Have to clean house for a rental inspection, but otherwise it's looking like a glorious stretch of Theatrhythm, cosplay-making, fic-writing and manga-reading.  In fact, I don't know why I'm on LJ right now.  I have things to do!

Brisbane was so lucky as to get a second Supanova in 2011!  As next year it's moving permanently to November and the April one is moving to the Gold Coast.

I don't normally cosplay at the local con, as the people I usually go with aren't particularly into cosplay (and there's way too many people from work I risk running across).  But they weren't interested in coming to this one (or had moved overseas by this point), so cosplay was on.  Because frankly, without cosplay, Supanova is the most boring con.  There were some cool guests, but those were all rather wasted on me.

Mostly just cosplay under the cut )

It's only, what September?  But even I must admit, that completing the PP catalog... and getting all the ultimate weapons... and levelling up all but four characters up to Level 100, might be time to stop and play something else.  :|

It's been interesting, though!  I think Yuna might be my new favourite character to play with, bumping out Onion Knight and Cloud.  She just has crazy coverage/speed ratio.  Followed closely by Prishe, and Jecht, and probably Feral Chaos.  (Because Feral Chaos, punishing though his AP allocations may be, is disgustingly badass.  And has the coolest Ex Mode ever.)

Ahaha, I have also been going through the theatre and checking out everybody's character lines, and the hilarity contained within.  Here are the best ones:

SMASH!

It was SMASH! in Sydney on the weekend!

And that's all the introduction really needed.

A bit picture heavy! And fangirling-heavy too. )

It makes me think of people misusing cellophane.

Work has been kicking my ass lately, so my presence online has been both sporadic and fleeting (and mostly related to geeking out about every little tidbit to come out regarding Theatrhythm.)  But I've been super-busy!  Somehow kinda finished my SMASH! cosplay on the weekend (just in time! Though it's a little unpolished still), realised it won't fit in the little suitcase so have to drag out the big one.  :(  I need to stop making things involving helmets, apparently.

And managed to see Kung Fu Panda 2 on the weekend, which was awesome, and also the new Dr Zhivago musical!  Anthony Warlow was unfortunately sick for the performance I attended, but his stand-in still gave quite a good performance.  Really liked the music, but then, I do love the tragic dark ballads and the russian war choruses, it appealed very directly to my tastes.  And the set was amazing!  Kind of weak ending, but that's probably more the story's fault than anything...

Oh!  And this is quite late, but carzla on ff.net wrote a mini-sequel for The Fifth Act called Visitations, where Vincent takes Sephiroth to meet Lucrecia.  It was quite good!  I recommend giving it a read.

Along the lines of recs, lately my fanfic attention has been entirely captured by this amazing Harry Potter fic World In Pieces by Lomonaaeren. It's wonderfully written, quite dark, and is managing to scratch all of my alternate dimension travelling itches at once.  It's gen (though mentions past Harry/Draco relationship in the new dimension), featuring a mentor Snape, has great characterisation, and it's pretty much all of my favourite things in a Harry Potter fanfic.  Everyone should read it.

My own fiction efforts have become highly schizophrenic lately, where I am trying to work on five different longfic all at the same time.  That's even after throwing two out.  :|

And lastly, this.

Sometimes it feels like a joke was written just for you.  This is one of those times.  (Laughed especially hard at the alt text, because, so true.)

Had a whirlwind trip to Sydney over the weekend for Distant Worlds.  It was, as expected, fairly awesome.

The weekend got off to a great start when I hopped off the plane straight onto this double-decker train from the airport! Yes, I am a country girl who is easily amused by such things.

Man, fanfiction. Whenever I get about halfway through a story I always hit this point where I just want to throw it out because I’ve suddenly realised it’s utter rubbish and the glorious plan in my head is not surviving its meeting with reality. Then there’s the mental bargaining – should I just go ahead and post it regardless on the off chance the forgiving fandom will like it anyway, or should I spend heaps of time editing and trying to fix it on the slim possibility it comes good, or should I just abandon it and move on to some other idea that is inherently better?  :/

It’s hard to throw out something like 30,000 words, though. That’s like fifteen one-shots. I could grow to like writing one-shots, simply because they’re not around long enough for me to think too hard about them. Does anyone else have this problem when writing longfic?

Anyhow, enough on the perennial crises of fic-writing confidence. I want to talk about Dissidia! Spoilers within. I AM NOT VERY FAR, BUT SPOILERS NONE-THE-LESS.  (Just started Chapter 7!)

Fangirling under the cut )

I love it when things I ordered months ago suddenly turn up in the post!  Such as today, when this suddenly arrived out of the blue.

Yes, that is Cloud Strife and Sephiroth Eau de toilette.  *____*

I've had a whiff of Cloud's Eau de toilette before courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] ka0richan, it is really quite nice!  Though my olfactory senses are not particularly experienced or refined, I shall attempt to describe.  Cloud's is more of a traditional musk, reminiscent of talcum powder, with just a hint of what could be vanilla and coconut thrown in.  Sephiroth's is decidedly sharper, spicy, and even a bit metallic on the first whiff.

akahfkjshfjkshf, GUYS, THIS HAS MADE ME KIND OF FANGIRLY AND STUPID.  I MEAN, MORE THAN USUAL.  Oh Square, you treat us too well~

They totally smell really good mixed together, too, by the way. Very complimentary.

Finally!  It's been, what, almost a year?  sadlfjsldjfksalkfj.  Totally worth it.  As predicted, I forgave Eminence for the lengthy delay the second I heard the first strains of 'Radical Dreamers Symphony' again.  ;____;  My tears, they are happy ones.

Forgive me, but I needed to fangirl in someone's general direction, and LJ has become the default for such things.

You can hardly tell it's a live recording, either!  As always, they do an amazing job mastering.  I honestly don't understand how Eminence can constantly be in dire financial straits, when they are quite possibly the best in the business.  Obviously they need to get someone business-minded in there.  And some decent marketing.

Too much detail under the cut )

I don't do any writing for a week and a half, and then suddenly I find myself doing this:

Yup.  I've given up on Square ever making Secret of Mana merchandise, so I'm making a Flammie statue for myself.  This is mostly because I've been hanging out in Lincraft's paint and plaster section on Friday evenings while waiting for the DJ Max Technika machine to be free.  This always happens when I wander into arts and crafts stores.  I get ideas.

But... asdfljksadlkfjsklfj, Flammie!  I'm not sure if any Seiken Densestu fans are on my flist anymore - I have not really been terribly immersed in Mana fandom on LJ.  So who is Flammie, you may ask?  Flammie is maybe my most beloved character ever.  I adore Flammie about as much as you can adore a fictional animal!  This is partially a side effect of my enduring affection for the Seiken Densetsu series (Better known as the Mana series in the West), but mostly because Flammie is awesome

Further justification of Flammie's awesomeness )

I haven't made any sort of general post for ages!  I am generally behind in such things, for which I will blame FFXIII - which continues to be amazing, by the way - and move on.

Okay, first things first - EVERYBODY NEEDS TO GO SEE 'HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON'.

No, seriously.  I am one of those animation snobs who generally looks down on Dreamworks animated films (mostly because of this, which I think sums it up pretty nicely).  But How to Train Your Dragon was just amazing.  It was thoroughly entertaining, and though the story was in many ways cliche, it was the good kind of cliche, the kind that makes you remember why it became cliche in the first place.  I've already flailed about it to a few people in chat but I need to rec this to the wider audience.  And yeah, the adults have scottish accents and the kids have american but most importantly THE DRAGON IS JUST SO CUTE OMG LOOK AT HIM.  Here, take these screenshots!

more flailing, bokurano, and the second best shirt ever )

Bleach: Fade to Black finally came out!  \o/  Ever since the epic fangirling fest the last one kick-started, I've been impatient for this one.  IT IS PRETTY AWESOME.  In fact, they fixed pretty much all of the problems I had with the last one!

Thar be spoilers in these depths! )
