Anyone else wondering if the sudden flurry of changes on Fanfiction.net is in response to Ao3's surge in popularity?

(I'm pretty sure Avengers fandom can take partial credit.)

The standard windshield for my portable recorder wasn't cutting the mustard, so I went and bought a deadkitten for it.  I'm not kidding, that's what it's really called.  A Rode Dead Kitten.  (The bigger ones are, ostensibly, called Dead Cats.)

NOW IT'S KIND OF ADORABLE.  I sort of want to give it a face.

Planning on taking the JLPT test this year - remembered about it the day the applications opened instead of the day they closed for once. I swear, filling in the forms is like applying for a passport.  Trying to decide between taking the Level 5 or the Level 4, since I've never taken the test before.  Anybody on the flist who has taken it before have much idea of the difference between the two levels?
sinnatious: (Hiruma)
Ahahahah - Driscoll Middle School trick play that immediately made me think of Eyeshield 21.  XD

I now have to wonder why Hiruma never tried this.

It's been a looong week.  And instead of relaxing by watching anime, I instead decided to try to talk to Google's Cleverbot:

I think Cleverbot has too many bad influences )

I've been playing Breath of Fire III on the train lately.  It's been fun playing a classic RPG.  I mean, I get to push over rocks and kick trees and blow up walls for hidden treasure, turn into a dragon, go fishing, go on epic worldwide hide-and-seek games, and every single NPC I visit in every single town says something different according to what's happening in the story!

But there's also hilariously stupid stuff, like, for example, an Australian dolphin.  (Skip the first three and a half minutes, that's just setup).

'For those players that don't speak Australian' - I just about died laughing.

I really want to play Breath of Fire VI already, has that become vapourware or something?

Hey guys, just a quick post to let Fifth Act readers know there won't be an update today - check back on Wednesday.  The chapter's pretty close to finished but I want to sleep on a couple of minor plot-related things first and maybe rework one scene.  That and there's almost zero chance of an update next weekend (Davis Cup tickets ftw!), so consider it a week and a half update for each of the last two chapters, keeps it nice and even.  Sorry!  I seem to be throwing out delays a lot recently, a good thing we're almost finished.

How's everyone's weekend been?  Mine's been pretty awesome!  I am determined to finish the main story part of FFXIII tonight.  Been working on some fun cosplay projects too, they are turning out not quite as terrible as I anticipated.  And some friends came to visit from out of town!  I like it when friends come to visit.  Normally I have to travel to visit them.  (Who can blame them, nobody wants to come to Brisbane. XD)

Anyhow, to provide a little more substance to this post, here's an amusing movie trailer parody working its way around the internet.  Or perhaps not a parody so much as amazingly accurate template, right down the the x-ray dogs soundtrack.

sinnatious: (Tezukazooooone)
Wow.  Um, real life is kind of stressful at the moment.  Not going into any details, more layoffs at work.  :/  Once again I have dodged the chopping knife like a ninja, but some really close friends got the cut this time, lunchtimes have abruptly become lonely.  :(  So I haven't been on chat much this week, sorry!

Given the situation, I've been in desperate need of pick-me-ups, and in my online wanderings, found the coolest thing ever.  AXE COP.  The story written by a 5-year-old.  The art done by his 29-year-old brother.  A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS IF I EVER HEARD ONE.

Episode One:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZquaoUMfIc  The credits music is maybe the best thing ever.

And also the must-watch 'Ask Axe Cop #1':  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j05nKOy3aNY

If that isn't enough awesome, here's something else really cool - [livejournal.com profile] teekoness  wrote this amusing little Fifth Act spin-off with Vincent!  (although it could really easily stand on its own).  She also has some other very interesting FFVII fics on the go, you should read those too if you have any sort of fondness for Lazard.  And [livejournal.com profile] firedraygon97  has been doing hilarious crack comics in the comments again!  I want a pair of slash goggles!  ....oh wait.

sinnatious: (Tezukazooooone)

Sinnatious: I've often thought that maybe Tezuka could be considered paranoid.
Sinnatious: And have been tempted to write fic where the lack of carelessness is taken to unhealthy levels.
Sinnatious: But the thing is, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean you aren't being watched.
buchouvoice: Perhaps Tezuka is actually Moody trapped in the body of a high-school boy?
Sinnatious: :O
Sinnatious: Maybe he grows up to become moody.
buchouvoice: Ahahaha
buchouvoice: It is a tantalising posibility
Sinnatious: Leaves Seigaku, becomes an Auror, changes his name because using his real name would be careless.
buchouvoice: Indeed it would
buchouvoice: HOWEVER!
buchouvoice: one day
buchouvoice: he begins to feel a watchful presence
buchouvoice: following him everywhere
buchouvoice: A CAT!
buchouvoice: obviously
buchouvoice: this would be AU!Karupin
buchouvoice: collecting intel for AU!Ryoma
Sinnatious: A tantalising scenario you've set up here.
buchouvoice: who, once his tennis career was over at 30
buchouvoice: had to find something else to keep himself busy with
buchouvoice: BAM!
buchouvoice: He goes to Hogwarts
buchouvoice: Perhaps in search of ancient powerful magic that will enable Kintaro to pronounce the kanji of his name properly
buchouvoice: in his quest
buchouvoice: he meets Tezuka
buchouvoice: who now has a long beard
buchouvoice: and is still paranoid
buchouvoice: It is a perfect scenario!
buchouvoice: what will happen to them?
Sinnatious: There are no holes!
buchouvoice: I am a genius!
Sinnatious: You win the internet.
buchouvoice: The world of crossovers doesn't faze me in the slightest!
Sinnatious: I can't believe nobody's tackled this before!
Sinnatious: This is clearly a massive gap that needs to be filled.
buchouvoice: I don't know how fandom has lived without this story for so long
buchouvoice: I have an epic idea!
buchouvoice: You should post this conversation to your LJ as a prompt to all the TezuRyo fans on your f-list
buchouvoice: an epic challenge arises!
Sinnatious: I'M ON IT.
buchouvoice: EXCELLENT.
buchouvoice: I will offer drabbles as prizes!

YOU HEARD THAT, FLIST.  [livejournal.com profile] umarekawareru  is offering drabbles as prizes.  Fic, art, whatever.  Can anyone rise to the challenge?  :D
sinnatious: (Tezukazooooone)
Saw this interesting sight on the way to the Brisbane International Finals yesterday:

I have to wonder, did they build the stairs around the tree, or has the tree been waging a slow and steady invasion on the house's territory? AND DOES THIS QUALIFY AS A TREEHOUSE?

Okay, the tennis part is actually under here )

To begin with:

In 2009, sinnatious resolves to...
Backup my japan regularly.
Pay for my soundtracks on time.
Find a better rpgmaker.
Be nicer to bucket_shot.
Connect with my inner manga.
Buy new star wars.
Get your own New Year's Resolutions:

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH ALL OF THESE RESOLUTIONS, INCIDENTALLY.

In the fantastic news column, [livejournal.com profile] clinck  has started the TezRyo revival!

click click click

And one more incredibly awesome thing to pimp, [livejournal.com profile] firedraygon97 's hilarious and awesome comic for events that may or may not happen in Fifth Act can be found in this thread here. (Scroll down to the shiny pictures) XD Oh, firedraygon, you are going to make the actual events seem so boring in comparison. <3

I'm still working on people's giftfics. Would be going a lot faster if it weren't for my crippling inability to write anything less than 500 words! I blame you guys - some of those prompts are so awesome they just beg for more. *__* Others I swear you've been thinking up just to make my life difficult for the sport of it.
sinnatious: (Gintoki)

So I haven't posted on here for a while.  *dusts off LJ*  Work has been kind of crazy, lots of bad news and general hysteria.  But today was good day!  No, scratch that, today was a great day!  Here's five good things that happened today:

1. My order of soundtracks arrived in the mail!  Kuroshitsuji OST collection is so swanky!  And finally plugged that hole in my Tsubasa Chronicles music collection.  Ah, completionism.

2. I learned that a Bread Top is opening in Brisbane!  Bread Top, guys!  Somebody has been reading my diary.  *___*

3. I managed a 20-win streak in the Lunar Whale Course in Dissidia!  Come hither, ultimate weapons.  (Lvl100 Kuja on maximum still continues to flatten me, though.)

4. A tricky scene that had been bugging me in a fanfic finally clicked!  Nailed the rest of the chapter in one go!

5. This: excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, princess!

I had forgotten how terrible the old Legend of Zelda cartoons were.  XD  But there's a certain charm to old cartoon sarcasm.  The best line ever belongs to Shredder in TMNT - "Perfect!  A completely abandoned warehouse!"

Flist!  Tell me something good that happened to you today.

sinnatious: (Tezukazooooone)
Dust storms!  Last time I was in a dust storm must have been 2002, and that doesn't really count since that was spent cooped up in a miserably hot little room desperately wishing I could open a window.  This dust storm was much more exciting.  Photographic proof:

The folks in Sydney had it way worse though:

Off to have a shower now.  I smell like a cane farm after harvest.

You know you’ve written too much Prince of Tennis fanfiction when you write ‘racquet’ instead of ‘racket’ first.

sinnatious: (Laughing Man)
Basic Instructions has been a regular stop on my weekly webcomic journeys for the past year or two.  It's pretty mainstream compared to most of the others I read!  So you can imagine the weirdness when all of sudden, I open the browser to discover today's comic:  'How to Write Fanfiction'.

(Click on the picture to make it readable!)

Scott Meyer.  HE KNOWS ABOUT FANDOM.  (Quick, someone get revenge by writing Scott/Ric fic)

This is what happens when I look for C3PO shoujo-style doujinshi. I instead wind up reading this.

Saint Onisan. The synopsis is thus: Jesus and Buddha come to Earth on holiday, and share an apartment.

That’s it.

No, seriously.

It even has Death Note references in it:

BLASPHEMY HAS NEVER BEEN SO HILARIOUS.
sinnatious: (Laughing Man)

RL got crazy busy all of a sudden!  But I need to share this.

Humanity is so doomed.
sinnatious: (Yanagi)
XD ...Why does nobody blame [info]ka0richan for tragic things?

Oh, apparently this is why )
sinnatious: (Laughing Man)
Some days, I despair over the declining literary standards of the general population.  Then on days like today, I come across something like this, and want to start up a Foundation on Terminus as soon as possible.

It doesn't come out in the picture, but the first paragraph of the article reads:

HOW UNCLEAN IS OUR VALLEY?

Very unclean, sometimes.  Especially on Monday morning after the entertainment precint has rocked all weekend.  Parts of it are sometimes mean, too.  Drunken street people quite often make parts of it an unpleasant place to have to walk through, particularly Brunswick Street West leading up to and beyond the Fiveways at St Pauls Terrace.  There's blue language and sometimes fists are thrown in anger.

Then after another paragraph or two acting as captions for the photos at the top, it gets to the actual point of the article - that a local councilman had made a complaint somewhere, to little effect.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE FRONT PAGE.  -___-

Then, hidden on the page 5 continuation, the only part of the article that could be considered 'news' - that on the Federal Opposition Leader's visit, his staffers deliberately detoured him around the area.

I can't figure out whether this is written by someone very young or very old.  My hope is that it was written by the granddaughter of the paper editor, which could account for both outcomes.  aldfkjslkjf I don't know.  Even though I know I shouldn't expect much from a local tabloid that doesn't even capitalise its name, a part of me is highly affronted when skimming the front page of a newspaper, and instead getting the feeling that I'm actually reading a children's book.  Is it just me?!  Am I overreacting?  I'm actually really annoyed that there's no byline so that I can write a letter to the editor about it.  There must be out of work journalism majors out there, please give them something to do.

'Sometimes mean'?  Seriously?

Maybe it's just all the bad news about newspapers cutting circulation or closing down lately.  I've been getting a bit anxious about there actually being some quality press to do all that in-depth reporting that keeps people accountable.  :/  Speaking of accountability, IF ANYBODY SEES ME ONLINE TOMORROW PLEASE REMIND ME TO VOTE.

(In other news, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still awesome.)
