So, I was watching Diamond Dust Rebellion.  Or, as I have to started to think of it - Ichigo and Hitsugaya's love story.

Seriously Shonen Jump, I think you're a bit confused about your demographic these days!  Not that I'm complaining.  But damn, the amount of innuendo in this movie is really hard to ignore after all that time watching Tenipuri.  Someone tell me I'm not just imagining this!

 

Look!  How adorable is little Hitsugaya?  SUPER-ADORABLE.  As though his fanbase was not large enough already.



Ichigo gets Hitsugaya into his room.  Never mind that - onto his BED.



Hitsugaya is rightly suspicious.



But he's determined to play hard-to-get.



Ichigo presumably has to sleep on the couch.



THIS PICTURE IS SO GOING TO BE ABUSED.



Did Ishida make Ichigo's bedspread or something?  What's with the Quincy design?



The morning after Hitsugaya sneaks out, but leaves a present behind.  May I point out that he leaves his haori with Ichigo, of all people.  I think I've been conditioned by anime to read much too deeply into this gesture.



ICHIGO!  That sounds like blackmail!  Are you that desperate to get Hitsugaya back into your bedroom?



Holy crap this expression.  HE DOESN'T WANT TO FIGHT ICHIGO.  NOT REALLY.



And again, because little Hitsugaya is so cute it should be illegal.



The other guy.  He sort of didn't interest me that much, but I have to mention him because the whole thing was basically him wanting Hitsugaya, and trying to eliminate Ichigo because he was the only wild card in the way of their true love. 



Some guys just don't handle breaking up very well.  Hitsugaya's got to sort him out.





Ichigo is pissed off that he's doing it alone and not sharing things the way lovers friends should.

Things go a little off the rails at that point as they started divvying up screen time for people's Shikai's and Bankai's based on their rankings in the character popularity surveys.

Shonen Jump is getting INCESTUOUS.

So when you get to the end, Hitsugaya and Ichigo head to the top to fight together.  Because that's what the leading man and woman are supposed to do.  This is their fight.  It's about Hitsugaya getting rid of old boyfriends and letting Ichigo everyone in.



They celebrate their newfound unity by watching shards of ice fall.  How romantic.



Ichigo's got a nice expression.



And Hitsugaya realises that he really is in love.



NEVER MIND THAT YOU LET HIM CALL YOU TOUSHIROU WHEN HE HAD YOU IN HIS BEDROOM.


I like finding my own stories in these things.

I did not realise that the Ichi/Hitsu fandom was that large? It's fun to watch them interact (AS THIS MOVIE PROVES) but it's a lot less obvious than a heap of other ships (UNTIL NOW).

Yes, you really should have heard me and twinness when we were watching this. XDD She was screaming "BUCHOU!! BUCHOU!! AAAAAAAAH!!" when she saw Byakuya, and I was simply overstimulated at that point to actually bother. I was just drooling, really.

Oh, and Ken-chan!!! ♥ He's so simple-minded, it's love~ (though we were missing Yachiru in this movie, awww).

OH, AND OH, AND OH, THAT ALSKFLKSDJGLKJKSJDL THAT FACE TOUSHIROU MADE AKSMFKSDHFKJSDFLK. HE SHOULD SO TOTALLY JUST BE TRUE TO HIMSELF, DON'T YOU THINK?! ASLKFJLSKDJTGKJHSWEJTHKLDSJLJKNKLLJKJKL!!

(I used to be a bit on the IchiHitsu and ByakuHitsu sides, but Tria dragged me into ByakuRuki, not that that's a new thing--her dragging me into stuff, I mean. Bet the IchiHitsu fans were just purely ecstatic watching this film. And I think they made Toushirou the focus of this film because he is the most famous of all the characters from the moment he appeared. That would certainly ensure a whole flood of viewers, not to mention that absolutely blinding movie poster screaming IchiHitsu to the rest of the world. I think he tops Ichigo (pun intended) a few hundred, maybe even a thousand votes?)

Cynical though it is, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. I'm pretty convinced that was how they allocated each character's screen time, too. Which would explain why Inoue and Chad don't really do much, and Yoruichi takes a comparatively major role for NO REAL REASON AT ALL? Notice that the captains and vice-captains who stayed on the outside were the ones nobody cares about?

The only aberration in the formula in Urahara. He continues to mess up the system. >:|

God yes, it was a fine moment for IchiHitsu fans. *____* I approve of this trend!

Ooooooooooooooooh, but I care about Kurotsuchi~! In a messed up, sadomasochistic, inane way!! Because he personifies my scientific side, the side that doesn't really care what happens to anything and everything else so long as there's something to learn!

Come to think of it, you're right, Kyouraku and Ukitake's were the only Bankais that WEREN'T animated in lavish detail. They dropped the ball there!

OMG That hack scene was precious. Honestly. I wonder where Kurotsuchi's psychological anomalies end. He has a disregard for life and humanity in general, he is anti-social, somewhat manic depressive, very anal-retentive about certain things, he's quite narcissistic in his own way, and egocentric, oh yes. *snicker* I like psychoanalyzing anime characters. They're so diverse it doesn't ever get boring!

lol. I just watched this yesterday. I've always wondered about Ichigo X Hitsugaya pairing coz I really couldn't see the connection between them initially, but after watching this movie, I was hard pressed not to join in fangirling over them. Instead, I was happily fangirling over my not so straight OTP (IchigoIshida) and my straight OTP (IchigoRukia). Ichigo had to be saved by his uke. The embarrassment!

I was so happy over the Byakuya saving Rukia part. He actually made it look easy. XD. Tezuka's soul must have been in Byakuya at that moment. Even against Hollows, you really can't get careless. XD

I empathise with your position. I've always been sort of interested in it, simply because they were my two of my three favourite characters, so I desired to see them interact more. NOW, HOWEVER, I MAY BE A FIRM CONVERT. Thank you non-canon movies!

As for IchigoIshida, are you not at all curious about Ichigo's Quincy bedspread? ;) We know that Ishida likes sewing... :D

I would think ESPECIALLY against Hollows you can't get careless, but I guess Tezuka has different priorities. XD The fact that they share seiyuus is so, so precious.
