Death Spirals

Haven’t been online much, between a bout of bronchitis (though I’m tempted to tell everyone it’s swine flu just to keep that awesome personal radius) and the barely contained awesome that is Dissidia. Dissidia is to Final Fantasy fans what Tsubasa Chronicles is to CLAMP fans. A game where Tidus can fight Squall? Where Zidane can fight Jecht? Where I can have Cloud and Sephiroth fight as many times as I want? And do so while Sephiroth isn’t wearing a shirt? Hold me close, Square.
 

Trying to catch up on all the fanfiction updates I missed!  Going through my bookmarks is getting kind of tedious though.  Some of them haven't been updated for at least six months.  Makes me wonder - at what point is it safe to assume a story abandoned?  I've always kind of had a rule of thumb of three months, with that extended to six months if the story is really, really good.  Seems like the usual pattern is daily updates become weekly, become fortnightly, become monthly... three months... six months... and if they post again after six months, that's usually the last post.  So I'm thinking it's time to let some of them go.  Anybody seen a case of story that's gone longer than six months between updates being finished?
