This is a post about cosplay
Feb. 28th, 2012 11:20 pmA hundred internet points to whoever can guess what this cosplay will be:
The entire thing is hand-sewn. ;___; I cry. I really need to invest in a sewing machine, it would make this whole cosplay thing a great deal less labour-intensive (and a good deal less raggedy, too). I still fail at fabrics, this was my first serious attempt at making everything for a cosplay. (Previous ones were largely op-shopped or modded or held together with sticky tape and pins.) It still needs to be ironed, so the zig-zaggy pattern won't be there. I also kind of wish I'd thought to line it, or at least to do the hems a bit differently. What I get for sewing and watching the tennis at the same time.
Sometimes I feel bad spending time on cosplay at the expense of other more career-related things, but damn, you know, I learn a lot of weird stuff from cosplay! It's taught me how (not) to dye fabric. It's taught me how to wear a kimono, and about all the different types of traditional Japanese and Chinese clothing, from furisodes to cheongsams to geta to zori. It's taught me more about sewing than I ever learned in home economics. It's taught me about fabric and paint mediums and clay and varnish. It's taught me more about makeup and hair-styling than I ever would have learned otherwise (though still have a long way to go on all of these things.) It taught me how to use a glue gun. Heck, before I got into cosplay, I didn't even know what a glue gun was.
It taught me how to make fake weapons! Which I am not allowed to carry anywhere, which sort of defeats the point of making them. Varnish bubbles, I hate them. :| Did not thin the varnish quite enough, but am afraid to go over it again in case of ruining everything.
This ought to be a pretty big freaking clue. Ahaha, why do I keep choosing esoteric and largely forgotten characters to cosplay? *Will be recognised by nobody* ;__; I have an event to wear this to now, but I actually started it around Christmas for no apparent reason, with no real planning, just the sudden inexplicable desire to fill a vital hole in my fandom experience.
Although, wow, that looks really weird without the wig.
Only the shoes and wig-styling left to do! Looks like for once I'm going to be finished well in advance!
