It's kinda like classical conditioning An update schedule for a fic is like fixed-interval conditioning where we just learn to repeatedly refresh/check at a certain interval of time but before/after that certain interval we're quicker to stop checking or stop the conditioned habit
No update schedule is random-interval conditioning where we probably check less frequently but we're more prone to keep checking for a longer period of time because we don't know exactly how long updates take so we optimistically pin for it longer P:
But update windows are fun, I would rather just refresh repeatedly through maybe 3-5 hours of the day that I predict you'll be online rather than the whole day/week
