Heh, I see. Well, that's okay then! Though you also know that you can track tags on LJ? That way you can just get notifs when I do update. :) (These days I usually give longfics their own unique tag for this purpose, e.g. Fifth Act's was Act V, and latest fic is just 'beloved'.)

Not that I'd stop you from any refresh rituals, just could save you the trouble! (I guess you just mind wind up refreshing your e-mail instead of the LJ then. :P)
